Concentration 5 prelim

These are some of the candid photos of people that I took in New York city last weekend. I am trying to capture people completely candid. If the photos look the same they are not I typically continuously snap photos, so there may be slight difference between them. Also, I am trying to experiment more with my editing.

Concentration Prelim 4

Again, I took these photos at the dress rehearsal of the winter dance concert. I can not say enough how difficult it is to capture clear pictures of dancers as they go through their routine! I really like the edits I am making to some of the photos, especially the black and white photos. I am trying to add different hues and textures to the photos to make them more interesting. I really like the edits to the photo just above this, it is black and white, but it is tinted blue, which has a really cool effect on the background of the photo. All of the photos in black and white are my favorite, I think it because the colors are so strong. The colors in the photos of Claire really catch my attention because the photo is black and white, but it also has this antique feel to it. I also like the large group photo of the dance team with their hands in the air, I think their expressions really make the viewer question the photo. I typically like to capture photos of peoples faces so taking pictures of dancers is different because I focus on their body movements rather than their facial expression. I am interested to see where I take photos next.

Concentration Prelim 2 & 3

I took these photos at a rehearsal for dance concert. I always have the hardest time taking photos of the dancers, even if I make my shutter as fast as it can go. Most of my photos turn out blurry, but this post proves that sometimes it works out.  I feel like I can sometimes I should use some of the blurry pictures but I am never sure how I feel about them. I like expierementing with editing the photos of the dancers because they already have set lighting based on the stage and lighting design, etc, but I can sometimes play up or play down the effect of those technical decisions. That is something I really like to do. I am trying to focus on the facial expressions of the dancers in a few, but I was really trying to focus on body and movement. The lighting is a main element in the photos. I like playing with the lighting while editing, though most of the lighting is dark I can use it to my advantage. This is seen through the blonde sixth grader, I can play up the background color which then highlights the outline of her face and brings the attention the the effects the lighting has on her hair. At the same time on the darker photos I can play up the exposer and the photo gets this cool looking lighter effect. This is seen in the photos of Dora where she is blue. I think the close up blue photos of Dora are so interesting. I think I like it because it has the feel of a black and white, in terms of playing with the hues of one color. I think it is her expression but the element of depth in the photo since the other dancers are one the stairs. I like when photos are darker because I feel like you then must spend more time looking at them. That might just be me, but I find it more intreging. I like the texture of the photo of the girls all holding arms, because it is one of the photos like I was just talking about, you have to look at it a little bit to understand what is happening. Also Erin's face is the only face you can see in an line of people, so she sets the tone for the picture, despite the already warm feeling of the picture due to colors. Utilizing the dark background as makes for really interesting black and white photos. I also love taking photos of Claire, it is because she is so expressive as she dances and it something I really like to capture. I really like the picture of Kristin she is in the center of the photo, but I think it is the colors that really draw me and create a fascination with the photo. Despite my love for realism for photos I want to take more risks in editing my photos, this is something I can do when my ever tempermental computer decides to cooperate with me and I can use some of the apps on dock.
